The question many people out there are asking, especially in the online advertising industry, is whether this year, 2010, is the year of mobile. First of all, let’s just say that if it is, we’re all in trouble, because 2010 is quickly coming to a close.
We can say that this year has been an important year for mobile. As usual, Apple was busy in 2010, introducing the iPad and the iPhone 4. We also witnessed the formal acquisition of Admob by Google. Another big development was the significant growth of Android across manufacturers, and we saw major growth of smartphones apps. So it is safe to say that 2010 was not an insignificant year.
But the truth is, there is no single ‘year of mobile.’ The mobile industry, which includes the mobile web, of course, is on a steady path of growth. The growth the industry has seen over the past few years is going to continue. So while 2010 was eventful, it is not a pinnacle by any means, and from what we can tell, the momentum will not slow down any time soon.
