This holiday season, expect to see more mobile commerce than previous years. And we aren’t just talking about Christmas. In November we have Thanksgiving and the famous (or infamous) Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales afterward, Hanukkah in early December, and, of course, the usual pre-and-post Christmas shopping that can run through January. Couple the rise of mobile usage in general with the fact that more women are using the mobile web than ever before, and the potential explosion of mobile retail commerce around the holidays this year is very likely.
Retailers are getting ready to cash in on the growing mobile market mainly with mobile coupons (in the forms of SMS, mobile bar codes, etc.) and calls-to-action (such as SMS messages broadcasting sales, branded apps, and the like). One or our favorite mobile news sources, Mobile Marketer, goes into better detail about how the 2010 holiday shopping season may just be the one that goes down in history as the season where mobile commerce went from just being nice to being necessary for the survival of retailers.
And since it is early October, there is still time to get in on the action.
