Mobilisten-Talk, Berlin

April 25th, 2012 by Talya

We tend to spend much of our event time outside of Berlin, visiting cities like London, Frankfurt, and Las Vegas for conferences and networking events. Every now and again we get to stay here in our ‘hometown’ of Berlin to attend a local event for the online and mobile industry. Next week, once such event  – the second Mobilisten-Talk – takes place at Base Camp here in Berlin, and we will be there to network and learn more about the latest happenings in the mobile scene.

Three leaders in the online/mobile industry in Germany will be at the event – Ulrich Coehnen from E-plus, Tim Hilpert from Ebay, and Arash Houshmand, one of the founders of Contigua GmbH. They will be discussing how smartphones connect online and offline commerce with Florian Treiss, founder of the German mobile news website MobileBranche.de. We are definitely curious to find out their thoughts on how online and offline business are linked by smartphones – couponing and location-based advertising would be two good possibilities – we’ll be sure to come back to this after the event and share what we find out.

In the meantime, if you are in Berlin and would like to attend the event (it’s free!), you can register over at the event on Facebook.

Online Expo, France

April 18th, 2012 by Talya

June will see us visiting Paris once again to attend the Online Expo. Online Expo is a conference and exhibition for online marketing (E-commerce, M-commerce, rich media, social networking, and more). Conference topics cover all the bases as well, from building mobile campaigns to apps and the use of social media. The event takes place June 13-14 at the Porte de Versailles in Paris. The Online Expo is a new event for us, so we really don’t know what to expect, but we certainly look forward to meeting new people and connecting with new companies in the French online market.

Our Business Development Manager for France, Gauthier Peter, will be attending the exhibition and meeting with partners. Anyone interested in meeting with Gauthier to find out more about a possible partnership with Sponsormob can send him an email. See you in Paris!

ad:tech San Francisco 2012

April 16th, 2012 by Talya

We recently exhibited at ad:tech in San Francisco. Ad:tech is one of the leading events for digital marketing, and it takes place annually in cities such as London, New York, Sydney, and elsewhere. We’ve exhibited there several times and always enjoy a reason to go to sunny California. We were able to meet with several of our partners in the Bay area while we were there. As we are headquartered in Berlin, events are a great opportunity for us to have face-time with clients, as most of our communication is done remotely. Of course, meeting with clients will now be a lot easier, as we have a new office in Austin, Texas.

A highlight of this year’s event was having a ready-made stand that was built for us and ready to go at the start of the show. Our usual event prep includes climbing on chairs to put together a stand, and climbing on those same chairs to dismantle it and pack everything back up after the show. So showing up at the show with nothing to build was most definitely nice.  Another high point was, of course, the pub crawl. The pub crawl took place on-site, with several beer stations set up throughout the show floor. You can see photo of two of the Sponsormob team enjoying a beer, as well as other photos of the event on our Flickr page.

Dmexco

April 6th, 2012 by Talya

This year we will once again be exhibiting at Dmexco, Germany’s largest digital marketing event, which is held annually in Cologne. This year the event takes place September 12-13 at the Koelnmesse, and several of us from our Berlin headquarters will be there. We don’t yet have the stand number, but as soon as we receive detailed information from the event organizers, we will update you. In the meantime, mark your calendars and plan to be in Cologne in September!

… Update! We now have a stand number at Dmexco – you can find us at Hall 7, A026. Details can be found here.

Mobile National Day, MobileTech Awards, and Internet World

April 5th, 2012 by Talya

March was a busy month for us at Sponsormob – not only did we open a new office in Austin, Texas, but we also attended several events here in Germany and abroad. The end of the month had us in three places at once, and we’ll tell you a little bit about them here. Photos can be seen on our Flickr page:

  • Mobile National Day Breakfast, London – This event is sponsored by 11 Prozent Communications and is held semi-annually. It was focused on the mobile advertising market in Germany. The event was moderated by freelance journalist, Paul Skeldon, and speakers included representatives from various companies working in app and mobile advertising. The main theme, of course, was the multi-million dollar German mobile ad market, and the growth that is expected to continue over the next several years.
  • Mobile Tech Awards, Munich – Part of the Mobile Tech Conference in Munich, the Mobile Tech Awards were created to honor the best in Germany’s mobile industry. Although we did not win the award, we were finalists for the best Mobile Company award. Our PR assistant, Sarah Christansen, attended the award ceremony in Munich and enjoyed her first visit to the home of Oktoberfest.
  • Internet World, Munich – The Berlin sales team was also in Munich for the Internet World event and to meet with partners. Internet World is one of Germany’s largest e-commerce events, with exhibitors and attendees from around the world and it is an event we will continue to participate in.

So yes, those were the recent places to be for Sponsormob – at the moment, our ad:tech team is on its way back from San Francisco and we are also in Paris at Buzzness Mobile. Updates and photos from those events are still to come, so stay tuned!

April 4th, 2012 by Verena

April 3rd, 2012 by Talya

Sponsormob Introduces Alternative Tracking Technology for iOS

April 3rd, 2012 by Talya

In response to the change in Apple’s tracking approval requirements, Germany-based Sponsormob has adapted its system to track apps through the use of an encrypted hash of the device’s MAC (Media Access Control) address. This tracking method replaces that of tracking the device’s UDID, its “Unique Device Identifier” or serial number.

Apple recently changed the basis on which apps can be tracked in the app store. The company no longer approves new apps that are tracked with the device’s UDID to track apps. Existing apps are not affected, but new apps and apps that are updated will need an alternative method of tracking in order to be approved by Apple for listing in the app store.

Sponsormob CEO, Peter Glaeser, says, “We at Sponsormob welcome this change, as we never used unencrypted UDIDs to track apps. Within the Sponsormob network, user data is tracked anonymously, as we place an emphasis on the privacy of user information and are not interested in the specific details of each individual user.” In some cases, UDID tracking has been misused to collect and exchange user data.

Through its new technology, Sponsormob’s tracking is as secure as it was before, and the company can continue to provide highly targeted advertising on mobile to its clients.
