Our most recent events: ad:tech London, dmexco, and MobileMonday Developer Summit

As we’ve mentioned before, this year’s super-busy event season has officially begun, and we are right in the middle of it. Last week, Sponsormob was in two places at once: Dmexco, in Köln, and ad:tech London. We did not exhibit at Dmexco as we did in 2010, but we visited the event and had meetings there with several partners. The event was busy and buzzing with companies from Europe, the US, Israel, and beyond.

We did actually exhibit at ad:tech London. This included a few long days with a busy exhibition and networking parties at night. We always enjoy ad:tech events, and this year in London was no exception. It was great, and we are already making plans for next year’s event, as well as looking forward to ad:tech New York in November.

This week our event schedule continued in Bucharest. I visited Romania to attend the Eastern European Mobile Monday Developers Summit (yes, that’s a mouthful!). It was Sponsormob’s first event in Romania, and my first time visiting the country, so it was most definitely interesting. Although the event was on the small side, there were attendees from across Eastern Europe and Israel, making for a very interesting mix.

Dmexco

Next week Dmexco, Germany’s largest digital marketing event, is taking place in Köln. The event is massive and includes a conference and trade show/exhibition, with hundreds of exhibitors booked and roughly 17,000 visitors from Germany and elsewhere expected to attend. This year’s speaker list includes experts in social media, communications, mobile marketing, and more.

This year, Sponsormob will not be exhibiting at Dmexco, although we did exhibit there in 2010. However, we will be attending the event. Our CEO and Co-Founder, Peter Glaeser, will be at the event, as well as our new Director of Business Development, Heiko Kasper. Anyone who is will be at Dmexco and would like to meet with one of them can contact me to arrange a meeting time and place.


ad:tech New York

This November, we will once again head to New York City for ad:tech New York. It will be our third ad:tech event this year (San Francisco and London are the others) and we are gearing up for a busy show. This year’s ad:tech New York will take place November 8-10 at the Jacob K. Javits Center (655 West 34th Street, New York). Several interesting speakers have been lined up for the conference, including Facebook’s VP of Advertising and Global Operations, David Fischer, and Wendy Clark, Sr. VP of Integrated Marketing Communications & Capabilities at The Coca Cola Company.

Several of us will be at the event, including our COO, Jet Patel, Verena Witkowski (Head of Publishers), Joe Niederberger (US Business Development Manager), and myself (Talya Shoup Burnett – Public Relations Manager). Sponsormob’s Gamescom experience

Last week our new Director of Business Development, Heiko Kasper, attended Gamescom, the world’s largest event for digital gaming and entertainment which takes place annually in Cologne, Germany. The event was massive as expected, and full of visitors, journalists, and several hundred exhibitors ranging from game developers to marketers and everyone in between.

From Heiko’s observations of the event, it was worth attending, but despite growing app usage and the huge number of people out there playing games on their mobile devices, mobile is still not really a main player at Gamescom. This is surprising to us, especially considering the stats out there regarding the number of people playing games via mobile (a recent article in Tech Journal South reports that one third of mobile users over age 13 in the US play games at least monthly). The exception at Gamescom was Sony Erickson, who was on location with their Xperia play.

We will more than likely be at Gamescom again next year, and it will be interesting to see if mobile will begin to play a larger role at the event – only time will tell!


Sponsormob’s experience at Casual Gaming Conference Seattle – great!

Our Business Development Manager for North America, Joe Niederberger, was in Seattle, Washington a couple of weeks ago for the Casual Gaming Conference. The event was very successful and a lot of fun, according to Joe, so we are happy to have been a part of it!

Event highlights

There were about 50 stands in the exhibit hall, and with 500 targeted guests, the stands were pretty busy, according to Joe. There were also several networking parties which were a lot of fun and a good opportunity to get to know some of the others at the event. Exhibitors and visitors ranged from major gaming companies to mobile payment solution providers and everything in between.

The conference agenda covered a variety of gaming-related topics, including:

  • Social Gaming
  • Zynga IPO
  • Content Creation
  • Additional distribution channels (outside of app stores and Facebook)

Discussions during the event included:

  • How financially tied to Facebook and Google Zynga is
  • Monetization opportunities outside Facebook
  • The transition of gaming from desktop computers to mobile devices

Future events

Considering how successful and fun this event was (especially compared to our recent App Day experience) we will likely participate in future Casual Connect events. There are annual conferences in Russia, Germany, the UK, the US, and an inaugural event coming up in 2012 in Singapore. We will keep you posted on exactly which of these we will be at in the future, so keep an eye out here!


Online Marketing Show Recap

Our account manager, Rose Silford, attended the recent Online Marketing Show in London. According to Rose, the event was great and very productive. The exhibition floor was full visitors, with several hundred exhibition stands constantly filled with people.This year there was a 29% increase in attendance, so the event was most definitely worth attending.

Rose had several meetings  at the event and was able to connect with new companies who were there. She also enjoyed being back home in the UK for a short bit and was excited for the chance to enjoy some delicious Indian curry, the kind you can (according to her) only get in England! We here at Sponsormob are looking forward to attending the Online Marketing Show again next year!


Sponsormob in France and Spain this week

A couple of us from Sponsormob will be on the road this week. I will be at Buzzness Mobile in Paris attending the exhibition, and Peter Glaeser, Sponsormob’s CEO, will be speaking at  DOMAINfest in Barcelona. Both events are new for us, so we are excited about the opportunity to take part.

Once we are back in the office the end of the week, we will be writing about the events and will be sharing pictures as well. Stay tuned!


Buzzness Mobile in Paris

Next week Sponsormob will be in Paris – “The City of Light” – for a short trip to visit the exhibition at Buzzness Mobile to further increase our growth for the French market. The event is a trade fair for mobile marketing, mobile solutions, and mobile payment. It is a relatively large event and will be held at the Espace Cardin. Over 4,000 visitors are expected, and the exhibition hall will be hosting roughly 50 companies. I will be attending the event to make new contacts, catch up with existing partners and to see the event firsthand.

Sponsormob’s experience at ad:tech San Francisco 2011

Several of us recently returned from San Francisco, California, where we exhibited at ad:tech San Francisco. The event was excellent, as it was last year, and we made many new contacts and were able to meet with several of our existing partners. We were also very happy that this year, unlike last year, our entire team made it to the show, thanks to no erupting volcanoes in Iceland or anywhere else. We had a great time and are already looking forward to spending time in San Francisco again next year!

Some of the highlights of the event were …

The Affiliate Marketing Awards

Hosted by Murray Newlands, the Affiliate Marketing Awards were introduced this year during ad:tech and were created to highlight the best in affiliate marketing. Sponsormob won awards for both Best Mobile Campaign and Best Affiliate Innovation. This was a tremendous honor and we are pleased to have been a part of the awards. As there were no official acceptance speeches for the awards, we will be blogging our “speech” within in the next several days, so keep an eye out for this! Pictures of the event have also already been posted and are worth taking a look at (if only to see our smiling faces after winning two awards!).

Networking events

The networking parties are always a big part of any trade show, and ad:tech was no exception. We enjoyed getting out to several of the parties, including Yahoo’s big bash, the party hosted by Engage at The Ambassador, and Advertise.com’s party, among others. The Affiliate Marketing Awards were also a good opportunity to network before the show started.

The city

Business trips of course should never be all work and no play, so we made sure to get out and enjoy San Francisco while we were there as well. For several people on our team, this was a first visit to San Fran. So we packed a lot of sight-seeing into a short period of time and had a great time doing it. We were able to visit Alcatraz, the Golden Gate bridge (one of our guys actually biked it!), Sausalito, and of course, the sea lions at Pear 39. Good eats were on the menu as well, and we enjoyed everything from burgers and milkshakes to Greek food.

So yes, this year’s ad:tech trip was a definite success and as always, we are looking forward to next year’s ad:tech San Francisco! Pictures of the event can be seen on our Flickr page.


Affiliate Summit East 2011

Sponsormob will be exhibiting at Affiliate Summit East in New York City again this summer. We absolutely love the Affiliate Summit events and always have a good time establishing new relationships and catching up with those whom we know or work with in the industry. And of course, a trip to New York in and of itself is always fun, even during the hot summer months (thank God for air conditioning!).

This year we will be at the Meet Market on Sunday, August 21 at table #119. We have been extremely busy releasing many new technical features and can’t wait to share our current and future plans with everyone.
